IRTP Scholarship 2027 is the International Research Training Program Scholarship for newly commencing research degree students. The IRTP Scholarship supports international higher degree by research (HDR) students with tuition, Overseas Student Health Cover and a living allowance, enabling recipients to focus on their research studies in Australia.
The scholarship is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Education and Training and administered at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). UTS Graduate Research School handles enquiries and provides application guidance and contacts for prospective and current research students.

Benefit
- Fully Funded scholarship package.
- Tuition Fee coverage: Up to 3.5 years for PhD and 2 years for Master by Research.
- Living Allowance: $40,500 per annum, tax-free (Commencing from 01 January 2026) for up to 3.5 years (PhD) and 2 years (Master).
- Overseas Health Cover (OSHC): Single or family cover provided for the duration of the program.
Eligibility
- Must be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) as an overseas student in an accredited HDR course at UTS.
- Must be a highly ranked, newly commencing research degree student demonstrating outstanding academic achievement and research potential.
- Must not be receiving an equivalent award, stipend, or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the IRTP Scholarship stipend rate. (Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is exempt from this rule).
- Must not receive an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR fees.
Required Documents
- All required supporting documentation for admission to a postgraduate research program at UTS (e.g., academic transcripts, research proposal, CV, English proficiency proof).
- Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
How to Apply
- There is no separate application form for the IRTP scholarship.
- New research students must submit a complete online application for admission to a UTS research degree by the relevant deadline.
