This prestigious scholarship supports highly talented women who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science at TU Wien, focusing on areas aligned with the research legacy of Austrian computer scientist Helmut Veith.
The Helmut Veith Stipend is awarded annually in memory of Professor Helmut Veith (1971–2016), a pioneer in logic in computer science, verification, software engineering, and computer security. Veith was a dedicated mentor for women in STEM and strongly advocated for their representation in technical disciplines.
The stipend offers financial assistance and a tuition fee waiver to outstanding female students who wish to join one of TU Wien’s English-taught Master’s programs in Computer Science.

- Duration: Up to 2 years (based on academic progress)
Applicants must pursue or plan to pursue studies in Computer Science, particularly with interest or background in one or more of the following areas:
- Logic in Computer Science
- Formal Methods and Verification
- Computer Security
- Algorithms and Complexity Theory
- Foundations of Artificial Intelligence
Recipients of the Helmut Veith Stipend will receive:
- €7,000 per year, for up to two years
- Full tuition fee waiver for Master’s studies at TU Wien
- Access to world-class research and academic facilities
This scholarship is open to female students of all nationalities.
To apply for the Helmut Veith Stipend 2025, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Be female
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or an equivalent field
- Demonstrate proficiency in English
- Have a strong mathematical and technical foundation
- Show interest in one or more areas of Helmut Veith’s research
- Be admitted (or planning to apply) to an English-language Computer Science Master’s program at TU Wien
Academic Requirements During the Program:
- Earn at least 25 ECTS credits per semester
- Maintain an average grade of 1.5 or better
- Reside in Austria during term time
- Curriculum Vitae
- Cover Letter outlining the type of funding requested
- Motivation Letter explaining:
- Why you wish to study at TU Wien
- Why financial support is necessary
- Your research interests and faculty members you'd like to work with
- Transcripts and academic records
- Bachelor’s diploma or preliminary certificate
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a university/academic source)
- English language certificate (TOEFL or equivalent, or proof of English-medium instruction)
- Copy of passport
Note: Certified translations must be provided for documents not in English or German.
