The Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship for South-East Asia is a prestigious scholarship offered by the University of Waikato, New Zealand, to support outstanding students from Southeast Asian countries. Established in 2015, the scholarship aims to promote international education, foster global engagement, and recognize academic excellence among new international students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies. In addition to supporting talented students, the scholarship also encourages recipients to serve as global ambassadors for the University of Waikato.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Be a citizen of a Southeast Asian country (including Vietnam).
- Apply as a new international student for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies (taught or research-based Master's/PhD programmes) at the University of Waikato.
- Hold a Conditional or Unconditional Offer of Place from the University of Waikato.
- Demonstrate excellent academic performance, with a minimum GPA equivalent to a B+ average in the qualification used for admission.
- Show the potential to become a global ambassador for the University of Waikato.
BENEFITS
- The scholarship provides tuition fee support, with awards ranging from NZD 8,000 to NZD 15,000, depending on the programme of study and the Selection Panel’s decision.
- Undergraduate students may receive up to NZD 15,000.
- Postgraduate students may receive up to NZD 10,000.
- The full scholarship amount is applied directly to the recipient’s tuition fees during their first trimester at the University of Waikato.
- Note: The scholarship covers only a portion of tuition fees. Recipients are responsible for paying any remaining tuition fees, as well as living expenses and other associated costs.

- 31 May for B Trimester offers of place
