Benefit

• Fully Funded scholarship (up to 6 awards available).
• Full tuition fee award.
• An annual stipend paid at a rate set by the University (For 2026-2027 the stipend rate will be £20,467).
• Duration of award: 3.5 years (full-time) or 7.0 years (part-time).
• Note: The scholarships do not cover continuation/extension fees, Visa fees, Immigration Health Surcharge, IELTS fees, or travel costs to and from the UK.

Eligibility

• Open to Overseas (International), Scotland home, and Rest of UK students.
• Must have applied for a doctoral or PhD programme at St Andrews.
• Must not already hold a doctoral degree, or be matriculated for a doctoral degree at the University of St Andrews or another institution.
• Programme start date must be one of the following: August 2027, September 2027, October 2027, January 2028, or May 2028.
• Available to students in all Schools and Departments (No subject restrictions).

Required Documents

• University transcript(s), including interim transcripts for any degrees pending.
• Research proposal (or a personal statement for specific schools like Mathematics and Statistics).
• Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resumé.

How to Apply

• Step 1: Apply for your chosen PhD course at the University of St Andrews. You do not need to wait until you have received an offer of a place before applying for the scholarship.
• Step 2: After submitting your course application, allow up to three working days to receive login details for the My Application portal.
• Step 3: Log into My Application, follow the links to Scholarships and Funding, and search for University of St Andrews Postgraduate Research Scholarships.
• Step 4: Complete the application form HERE. By doing so, you will be automatically considered for the World-Leading Doctoral Scholarships if you meet the criteria.
• Step 5: Ensure everything is submitted before the deadline on January 20, 2027. (Notification of outcomes will be available by late March 2027).
